May 17, 1999 - ICE '99/Cincinnati Composites show gives out last hurrahs. he awards ceremony May 11 at the International Composites Exposition '99 in Cincinnati was bittersweet. While the competing companies were eager to take home a prize, they also knew the ceremony would be the last. The Composites Institute, which organized ICE '99, has been absorbed by the Composites Fabricators Association, bringing an end to the organization and its annual trade show. For CI President Terry McQuarrie, who won CI's Person of the Year award, the honor was tinged with sadness. "I have mixed feelings on accepting this award." Terry McQuarrie said. "I have never worked so hard as I have in our attempts to save this 55-year-old organization." McQuarrie also is vice president of Glasforms Inc. of San Jose, Calif., which took home a brace of product awards for its Duraspan pultruded bridge deck system. The system won the award for top infrastructure product, the People's Choice award for best product selected by show attendees, and the top overall honor. Craig Urey |
